Protect your little one this winter and the rest of your family too with the free nasal spray flu vaccination for 2 or 3-year-olds

Flu kills an average of 11,000 people in England every year.

The best way to protect the whole family from flu this winter is by vaccinating your 2 or 3-year-old and helping to stop the spread.

It’s time to book your little one in for their flu vaccination at your GP surgery.

Why should I get my little one vaccinated?

Flu can be really unpleasant for little ones, and in some cases, serious.

Children are also ‘super spreaders’, meaning they could easily pass it on to the rest of the family too.

Older children are offered the nasal flu vaccination at school. You will be asked to fill in a consent form and you can choose whether or not you want your child to have the vaccination.

The nasal flu vaccination is quick and easy, and means everyone will be protected.

Does the nasal flu spray contain gelatine?

Yes, the nasal flu spray contains a highly-processed form of gelatine (porcine), which is used in many essential medicines.

The nasal vaccine is offered to children as it is more effective in the programme than the injected vaccine. This is because it is easier to administer and considered better at reducing the spread of flu to others, who may be more vulnerable to the complications of flu.

If your child is at high risk from flu due to one or more medical conditions or treatments and can’t have the nasal flu vaccine they should have the flu vaccine by injection.

Some people may not accept the use of porcine gelatine in medical products. If you do not want your child to have the flu vaccine nasal spray because of porcine gelatine, please discuss this with your GP or practice nurse.
